Nikko Ceramics endeavors to create fine tableware that will enhance any occasion, from everyday gatherings to that special event with family and friends. High standards of production and design have given Nikko Ceramics a reputation for quality. Nikko Ceramics has proudly served fine hotels and restaurants worldwide for 100 years. Nikko was founded in Kanazawa, Japan, by Lord Maeda and local nobles in 1908. Kanazawa is a city of history and culture, a haven for traditional arts and crafts. Successive lords promoted traditional culture and crafts and the first kiln was established on the land of Kanazawa. Here the noble culture of Kyoto and the Samurai culture from Edo co-existed and merged. Since 1908 Nikko has been manufacturing tableware with the spirit of craftsmanship and a company culture of high aesthetic sense. Nikko products have won a worldwide reputation for quality and design. In 1961, the company moved its head office and plant to the present location in Hakusan City, west of Kanazawa. This completed the integrated production line with modern equipment and facilities and secured the company’s position as a prestigious dinnerware manufacturer. In 1968 Nikko founded a subsidiary in the United States and in the 1980’s the company expanded again by entering the international hotel and restaurant market. Today Nikko produces tableware from several different materials, including semi-porcelain, fine bone china, fine porcelain, and fine vitrified china. Everything, even molds and decals, is produced under one roof. The Nikko compound in Hakusan City for manufacturing dinnerware covers 30 acres and now employs 350 highly skilled professionals.
